Before we go to buy a helmet, measure the circumference of our head around our forehead.
You can measure such a number, e.g. an adult man: 59 cm. This is a regular size L.
Dimensioning of the crash helmet:
- XS: 48 – 52 cm
- S: 52 - 55.5 cm
- M: 55.5 - 59 cm
- L: 59 – 62.5 cm
- XL: 62.5 - 65 cm
When sizing ski and snowboard helmets, the inner circumference is usually increased by 2 centimeters. This way, the circumference of the helmet may be 1 cm larger than our head. If you want to fine-tune this further, choose a helmet that has one at the back of the head micro adjuster. This makes the adjustment stepless and provides precise fixation. It is important that the setting is well fixed, but does not restrict blood circulation - we feel comfortable. A helmet of the right size and shape for us is more like a part of our body than an extra weight attached to us.
Details of the crash helmet
- The helmet inner lining often, a shell and cap part that can be removed as a whole. It is practical because it is easy to wash. By the way, I strongly advise against wearing a separate cap under your helmet, because in a serious fall it will come off your head and this can have very dangerous consequences. You rarely need a helmet, but you really do!
- Helmets in which are better ventilation ducts are found. It is even better if they are adjustable and controllable. Then, in any weather, we can adjust the helmet's pleasant climate and we won't sweat.
- I like it when the helmet has the rear glasses holder it is made of elastic material, because rigid plastic fasteners break easily.
The crash helmet test
- During the helmet test, do not attach the helmet under your chin, and then, as a test, suddenly nod your head forward. If the helmet then flies off or slides on your nose, don't choose it.
I don't like it when the rim of the helmet ends too high at the back of my head. Definitely not if it ends too high on my forehead. Just reach down almost to the eyebrows, let the head be deep inside. - Many of us have a sharp line running backwards from our temples on our skulls that characterizes the shape of our heads. In the same way, the top of our skull can be unique. The more peaks and protrusions there are on our head, the more difficult it will be for us to choose, the more we have to look for the ideal helmet shape for us.
Along the lines of the above, it is clear that you should not buy a helmet on the Internet! Heads, like our legs, have a unique shape.
- In general, it can be said that point pressures in the helmet are a bad sign. If you feel them in many places, don't buy the helmet. If the helmet would only fit in one place and otherwise, it should be shaped, milled, and hollowed out to fit the head with the help of a professional.
- The helmet should not squeeze our head as if it were in a tire, even if we do not have a puncture-like sensation. Never buy a helmet just because you like the color!
The color of the helmet
- Many people buy black because it is understated and can be worn with everything. This is true, but it is also worth considering that it is at our highest point, on our heads. If we wear a bright color, this is what they see, from afar, the soonest - especially on a track where there are many skiers and boarders! This has already saved lives, preventing serious collisions and injuries.
- Outside of the track, it is almost mandatory, where yellow, orange, or neon-green helmets are a big advantage when following each other, either in the vast open fields or in the denser forest, but also in fog.
- Too much black is boring on a fun winter holiday anyway. 🙂
So? Who looks good in the picture?
